Exciting Toys from the Star Wars Series

Exciting Toys from the Star Wars Series

This nice ad from Zayres (wish i had the whole flyer) is from Christmas 1983 and I’m guessing by that point, I had jumped off the wonderful train that was Star Wars.

I still read the Marvel comic mind you but I honestly don’t recognize or remember that mini-rig or the plush Ewoks at all. I hope it brings joy to those that do.

$15.99 was a steal for the Ewok Village.Even it's presale price of $21.99 seems low for the time.

I always wanted that Y-Wing… but alas it never happened… I never saw one in a store either.

Must've been a wild party going on at Zayres when they produced that flyer. So many questions…

Why are they promoting the aging and obscure Y-Wing for Jedi? Was it even in the movie? Shouldn't they be pimping the B-Wing?

Also, the "Jedi" Speeder Bike??! Did Anakin invent them during his podracing days? And why is Lando's very non-Jedi co-pilot pictured with the bike? And I'm not sure how they can claim the brakes are "working."

Ah, the stuff my 1983 dreams were made of! I have fond memories of getting the Y wing for my b-day, May 1984

Was the Kenner lightsaber originally inflatable? -Mark J

I think the original lightsaber was inflatable. Check out this ad: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uEsOqEpNF0k

YIN asked all kinds of interesting questions…

"Why are they promoting the aging and obscure Y-Wing for Jedi?"

…because it took half a decade before some genius at Kenner realized kids wanted a Y-Wing.

"Was it even in the movie?"

    Yep.

The "mini rigs" weren't though. None of them were in any of the movies, except for the ESB Hoth-Trooper's crew-served cannon.

"Shouldn't they be pimping the B-Wing?"

In theory, yes. Kenner, being Kenner, missed the boat as usual. The B-Wing didn't arrive on the shelves until another year after the movie.

"Did Anakin invent them during his podracing days?"

    Yep.
Ananki invented everything back then. He even invented himself, if his Mom's story is true.

There are, however, unconfirmed reports that Summer's Eve offered free samples of a "Midichlorian-Fortified" cleansing product in Mos Eisley pharmacies several years earlier. For obvious reasons, the company's legal-affairs division started running scared and withdrew the product pending further testing.

"And why is Lando's very non-Jedi co-pilot pictured with the bike?"

Same reason any of us would. Nein Nunb's gonna heist that POS, fence it over at Watto's, and go to town with Five Awesome Things On Ebay This Week.

"And I'm not sure how they can claim the brakes are "working."

You see the bike moving in the photo? Me neither. Obviously the brakes work.

Brakes were never a problem on the Aratech 74-Z. Neither was the steering. Going 160 km/h in a forest of redwoods was the problem.

Sure you can do it, but it's going to end badly and you have nobody but yourself to blame. Kinda like trying to max out your Suzuki Hayabusa, passing somebody in the breakdown lane and hitting a rumble-strip.

Personally, this Anon is curious what kind of untested stuff Summer's Eve was pushing on the unsuspecting Ewok community. Their village is like something out of "The Boys From Brazil". There are about four identical Chief Chirpas walking around and three Logray Medicine Men.

Then there's the question of why they resurrected Obi Wan Kenobi just so they could burn him alive. That's some serious ewok-hate happening there. What did old Ben ever do to them?
