1979 Mattel Battlestar Galactica Assortment
In the wake of Kenner's success with Star Wars, many companies were scrambing to find what they thought would be the next big "Sci Fi" toy. The master toy license for the ambitious new television series Battlestar Galactica was originally offered to Mego but they declined, Mattel quickly scooped up the piece and while the show remained on the air, the well made toy line sold well. According to industry magazines at the time, once the show was yanked, the sales disappeared overnight.

Mattel created everything from deadly remote controlled cylon raiders to cuddly talking daggits.
The action figure line was popular enough to warrant a second wave.
The line of Battlestar Galactica vehicles were extremely popular
The Unproduced Battlestar itself would have been a welcome site to many kids
Mattel also added the Space Alert game to their electronics line
