1977 Ideal Evel Knievel Catalog
1977 looked like it would be another banner year for Ideal Toys with it's Evel Knievel toy line which set sales records the previous years.
Evel was even playing himself in the movie "Viva Knievel" to be released that June but thanks to a very well publicized incident, it all came crumbling down that year.
This line was in the top ten best selling toys for 4 years, it was an incredbile seller.
After Evel's departure, Ideal tried to bring the concept back with Scare Cyclesin 1978 and Team America in 1981, neither had the magic.
Like a lot of toys in the last year of a line's production, the Strato Cycle is hard to find and desired by collectors.
Nobody thought the CB fad would fade.
That chopper was repainted and sold for Fonzie in one department store catalog.
